In the early 2000s, Superdry clothing was all the rage. So when the company floated in 2010 with a value of £395m (today COVID-19 has seen it collapse to c.£106m despite £58m cash), the concept of a retailer rolling out own branded stores around the country still managed to grip investor imaginations despite the fact that fashion is a notoriously choppy business. Against that background, the shares did really well and despite several ups and downs they had risen from their 540p float price to just over £20 by 2018, at which point Superdry had grown its brand revenue (aggregating wholesale sales to retail value) for the business globally to £1.5bn.But things have been quick to unravel.
