Bears have been having a field day at hospital chain Spire (SPI; 172p) with the share price seeing an extended fall last month. Softer demand from the NHS has come after a crooked surgeon was jailed for giving patients unnecessary breast operations, resulting in a fine to Spire even though it had suspended the surgeon in 2011. Three directors have been buying heavily in the last month (a combined 235,000 at c.160p) and with would-be-predator Mediclinic (MDC; 489p) sitting in the wings with a 29.9% stake for which it paid 360p in 2016, the shares are worth buying on weakness.
