I last went to Barbados on a family holiday just after the credit crunch in 2010. I’d visited the same resort, Turtle Beach on the west coast, two years earlier but it seemed emptier and cutbacks were evident in the food and staffing levels. Reading a 70 page circular from broker Zeus, it seems that Turtle Beach, which is one of the six freehold hotels in Barbados owned by Elegant Hotels (EHG; 77p), underwent a US$3m redecoration a couple of years ago as part of a five year US$24m estate refit. The others hotels include Crystal Cove, Colony Club, The House, Tamarind and Waves.
