Shares in Big Yellow have been hidebound in a tight range for most of the past year but they remain well ahead of the main recommendation in Dec ‘08 at 198p. Last month, the company surprised the market by issuing a Q1 trading statement. Occupied space at the period end was 1.9m sq ft, up 107,000 sq ft during the quarter. Occupancy has therefore grown to 59% of the space across all 51 stores open, up from 56% during the previous quarter. That number, of course, is being dragged by immature stores. The 32 mature stores, which have been open more than two years, grew occupancy from 69.5% to 72.9%.
