Flying Brands has reported results for the six months to 29 June, which despite a tougher retail climate and higher postal costs showed profit before tax maintained at £3.1m. Turnover was up 20% to £25.2m helped principally by the acquisition of Greetings Direct (the continuity card marketing operation) and excluding this, on a like-for-like basis sales were down 7%. Eps however went up 7% to 10.3p due to a lower tax rate. When we spoke to chief executive Mark Dugdale last month, he pointed out that the increased cost of Jersey post is around £0.75m on an annual basis but this is mitigated by the Jersey tax status with the tax rate reduced from 20% to 10% on 1 January and expected to become 0% from 2009. ...
