Last week while meeting David Page, the chief executive of Clapham House, he made a bold claim that would scare away any would-be-bidders - that if you leave him alone to his own devices he sees little problem in growing his chain of upmarket burger restaurants, Gourmet Burger Kitchens (GBKs), to around 90 in two year's time and hence any would-be-buyer at this stage of the game is going to have to pay a significant premium for control of his company. Of the four restaurant brands Clapham House owns, Page can see the greatest scope for expanding his chain of GBK restaurants which brokers suggest will account for 20 of Clapham House's 26 new openings this year.
