Baltic Oil Terminals is a company which was formed and financed in 2004 by three individuals (an oil infrastructure expert, a corporate lawyer and a fund manager) to invest in oil related infrastructure projects in Russia. Baltic’s main interest is a 58.35% interest in Tetoil, which is building a transhipment terminal in Kaliningrad, a Russian enclave separated from the rest of Russia in the Baltic Sea. Chief executive Simon Escott, an oil industry veteran who has worked in Russia since the 90s, says this project is plain sailing compared to some of the vastly more complex infrastructure projects he has worked on, such as the oil refinery crackers in Pakistan.
