Stewart McColl is an expert in building up architectural businesses. In 1988, he sold the interior design/architectural business he had built up since 1974 to WPP for £32.5m. But WPP subsequently liquidated that business in the recession that followed and with most of the consideration contingent on performance, McColl had made and lost his first fortune.
