For the year to 30 June, Ultimate made a record pretax profit of £5.2m, up from £4.2m the previous year. The vast majority of the profitimprovement came from one large 2am licenced club/bar opened during theyear (Beach in Sunderland; contribution: £0.8m) as well as development sites acquired during the year (£0.5m) and a full year contribution from the 2001 opening. Earnings per share  were up 20% to 20.7p. AllanRankin and Bob Senior  continue to be a remarkably sure touch having expanded Ultimate from the five bars in 1997 to the 22 currently. The real interest for investors though is the medium term outlook as they expand beyond the North East heartland; the infrastructure to do so is now in place. Overall ...
