UPGS was one of those new issues to disappoint early on in PLC life but some green shoots are emerging in its update for the year to 31 July.Revenues were down 20% to £87.6m with pretax profit down 44% to £5.5m, reflecting the tough trading environment in the UK for general merchandise - you need only look at John Lewis’ recent update to see how hard that space has become. Online sales performed well, rising to £6.9m in the year (7.9% participation) from c.£4.6m in FY17.UPGS says that the FY19 order book is ahead of this time last year, with German customers representing an increased share and this will become the key driver going forward.
