JD knocked the ball out of the park with its half year results as it continues to ride the athleisure bubble. For a traditional bricks and mortar retailer, its results are truly astonishing.Sales were up 20% to £971m (+10% like-for-like) but the mouthwatering 48.1% gross margin  (up from 47.4%) on a fixed cost base saw all those additional sales fall quickly to the bottom line with pretax profit before exceptionals up 66% to £77.4m and eps up 69% to 30p.
