Interims from Laura Ashley were ahead of forecast. For the year to 28 July, sales grew by 7% to £145.4m with pretax profit up 14% to £8.3m. Eps was 0.85p and the interim dividend was once again maintained at 1p. Net cash stood at £27.8m.The UK estate grew sales by 6% to £127.5m or up 3.9% like-for-like with one new store opening and one closing, leaving the store count unchanged at 211. Departmentally, performance in decorating and home accessories went up sharply whilst furniture and fashion were flat and this mix change as well as greater discounting saw margins down 2.4%.
