Our May update highlighted the burgeoning demand China Shoto has been experiencing for backup power batteries for telephone base stations, so much so that it shifted factory capacity away from electric bicycle batteries. At the time we had anticipated that much of this increased demand was down to the huge investment in 3G telephone infrastructure ahead of China showcasing it to the world at the time of the Olympics and only time will tell if we were correct in that assertion. As it was, China Shoto has reported blistering results for the six months to 30 June with sales up an eyepopping 81% to Â£68.6m and pretax profit up 29% to Â£3.9m - all organic.
