Shares in XL fell following a worrying update from its investee company, Agcert, which revealed appaling internal controls. Agcert’s chief executive has been fired and its management team criticised. Demand for carbon offsets is itself not an issue but revenue expectations going forward have been delayed - this is particularly surprising given that Agcert floated just four months ago - so exactly what due diligence did Code Securities carry out? Part of the problem is that the group’s markets are so new - Agcert is one of just four or so approved methodologies for generating carbon offsets but it has encountered delays in installations, higher cost increases per installation and found an inability to impose penalti ...
