The explanation for the sudden spike in the shares of Domino Printing Sciences last year was the bidding war for its closest quoted rival at the time, Linx Printing. Both Linx and Domino supply inkjet printers and laser coding systems used for placing sell-by dates and other codes on product packaging. There are also industrial applications including wire marking, automotive components and electrical parts.  Linx had been trading at 321p before the first bidder showed its hand and in the end, it was a cash bid from Danaher Inc. at 550p a share which won the day, valuing Linx at £85.7m.
