This is written ahead of the UK Budget. Over the last month the UK indices are very little changed, though not far removed from most global indices bar the tech-driven US and, obviously, China. The negative rhetoric and rumours around the Budget have been unhelpful, a “naïve own goal” by the new administration. Yet there are positives. Long term research highlights that any initial stock market caution on the election of a left-leaning government is typically an opportunity. On this occasion any such caution has merely stalled market progress rather than anything more serious.
