Having a water leak at home can feel like the end of the world. The problem is that leaking pipes can be buried in a wall behind tiles, so aren’t easy to get at.I recall a few years ago a situation where I could smell damp in the dining room. I initially suspected the seal between the shower tray and wall in the bathroom upstairs had perished. When re-sealing didn’t work, I assumed something had gone wrong with the waste pipe connection under the tray. I summoned a builder to cut a hole in my ceiling but the trap was bone dry.
