Having apparently been trying for 15 years, FDP has finally persuaded the owners of Kx Systems to sell their business. It has acquired a further 46.47% stake in Kx from its founders for £36m (£23.9m cash plus 1.25m new shares at 968.6p), to increase its holding to 65.2% and also has agreement to buy the remainder at the same price within seven years. California-based Kx is a supplier of a super fast columnar database capable of accessing billions of records (kdb+) at high speed. It is widely used in financial markets for big data solutions and is what several of FDP’s products are built on. Kx lists nine of the top ten global investment banks as its customers.
