There is no point pretending that this is an easy time for investing and as this is written just ahead of the Federal Reserve announcement on QE2, it is even more difficult to comment sensibly. So it is a good time to step back and consider some bigger themes for investors with a time horizon beyond the next few months (or seconds in the case of 25% of trades on the UK market).We know that re-invested dividends drive the long-term performance of the stock market and that high yielding shares outperform the market as a whole as well as low yielders (the “growth†stocks).
