Orange juice futures hit a 16-year high after the US government said Florida's orange crop will be the smallest in 17 years as cold temperatures and lingering hurricane damage hampered fruit growth. So it has been surprising that none of this has rubbed off on Asian Citrus, the largest orange plantation owner and operator in China, although it has to be said it does not yet export its oranges. The company reported that for the year to 30 June, turnover was up 26% to £27.4m, although pretax profit grew by only 17% to £13.1m because of higher costs including fertiliser and pesticide.
