Businesses within the UK home space occasionally throw up a category killer. Take the example of household furnishings business Dunelm, which started off life as a market stall and now four decades later, in FY22, is forecast to deliver record sales of £1.4bn, a pretax profit of £167m and earnings of 65p.  Another that started off modestly is Victorian Plumbing (VIC; 60p), which was founded in 2000 in the garden shed of chief executive Mark Radcliffe’s parents’ house and operates a website purely focused on the bathroom market, selling larger items (showers, baths, basins, WCs) as well as components and accessories.
