The increased amount of time spent at home since the start of the pandemic translated into a greater focus on home improvement projects. Everyone, it seemed, wanted a new kitchen or bathroom. Although DIY shops were classed as essential retailers and stayed open, trade still shifted online with online penetration for the home improvement and gardening market jumping from 22% in 2019 to 33% in 2021. This then was the background for three companies (considered hot tickets in the housing repair and maintenance sector) to join the market since the middle of last year - Lords (a building materials distributor), Stelrad (a supplier of radiators) and Victorian Plumbing (pure online bathroom specialist).
