Solid State took a bit of a tumble after saying it expects pretax profit for the year to end March to be in line with forecasts of c.£3m/eps c.30p.Sales grew by 15% to £45.5m but the growth came from lower margin distribution (+18%) rather than manufacturing (+10%). This trend is continuing into the current year and the company is therefore guiding analysts down despite being only one week into the current year. In particular, the communications / antennae sector has been difficult, with SOLI reporting a noticeable preference by US customers to buy domestic US product.
