In the old days we might have cut out coupons from Sunday supplements and presented them in the supermarket but the world of vouchers and coupons has moved to the digital age. Retailers now have a choice of issuing coupons via SMS and email and customers can redeem these in store using their mobile phone.There is a lot of scope to be inventive. During the World Cup, for instance, Tesco-owned convenience chain One Stop had a promotion with brand partner Coca Cola through an online game. Promoted on posters in store and on its Facebook page, customers were encouraged to play a game involving a digital penalty shoot-out.
