Majestic Wine - Buys Naked Wines for £70m to add international dimension

Having instigated a strategic review it seems like former chief executive Steve Lewis fell on his sword. The reasons became clearer this month with Majestic saying it has agreed to acquire Naked Wines, a successful online wine business. Rowan Gormley, the founder of Naked Wines, is taking the helm as chief executive and adds a particular expertise in CRM marketing, which Majestic has been lacking.Established in 2008, Naked Wines operates a unique online crowd funded business model whereby its members ('Angels') help fund 130 independent winemakers in 14 countries worldwide in exchange for access to exclusive wines at preferential prices.
