A decade ago when SCSW alighted on a company called Genus (GNS; 1032p) and made it a main recommendation, hardly anyone had heard of it. Genus's mainstay was in bovine genetics and to anyone taking a cursory glance at the company it might have looked a bit of a flash-in-the-pan kind of business - but not so. The business wasn't about genetic engineering; instead, it was about using bovine traits to improve natural selection. Genus would breed cows and once they calved, it would use their offspring in breeding the next generation and so on. The company's mainstay is in supplying bull semen from the bulls with great blood lines to dairy farmers who have to inseminate their cows each year as it is the onset of pregnancy that triggers ...
