Mears has become a bit of a milch cow for chairman Bob Holt with the latest results swiftly followed by the exercise of 1.5m options at 1p and the subsequent sale of 2m shares at 250p leaving a zero holding. The finance director carried out a similar exercise. Normally such sizeable share sales do concern us and indeed Holt’s record on sales is good. He previously sold his entire holding in 2009 when he netted £18m and went off on a sabbatical. The shares have done little since so perhaps the time has come to disembark this profitable investment. Having originally tipped the shares at 51p in April ‘01, the prospective PE of 9.2 is still undemanding.  The results themselves were OK. Overall revenue went up 12% to £589m. ...
