I plan to cover filtration business Porvair (PRV; 642p) in due course but mention it now because the share chart seems to be stretching its legs and could easily break out by next issue. Porvair is a marvellous example of the slow but sure approach. When I last looked at the company in 2005, it had made a pretax profit of £3m on £46m turnover. But 18 years later, it has made £21.4m on £176m sales for the year to end November. Shares in issue haven’t increased hugely in this time, reflected in eps, which have soared from 4.3p to 37.2p. When measured on a 5, 10 or 15 year basis, it has grown sales between 6 and 8% a year, which may not sound much but has supported profit growth of 10-12% a year.
