We think AIM-listed GTL Resources, a bio refining company that produces ethanol, has potential to put in a strong share price performance in the next few months. Ethanol is already commercially proven and widely accepted as a renewable biofuel that can be blended with car fuels. The most common blend is 10% ethanol and 90% petrol (E10). In the case of GTL, its plant at Rochelle in Illinois is capable of producing 100m gallons of ethanol each year using corn as a feedstock. As America aims to provide for its own energy needs rather than importing crude, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and at the same time to create employment in rural areas, demand for ethanol has been rising.
