At the AGM last month, Dawson issued a positive update reporting on the first four months. Although it is trading in line with expectations it has experienced some patches of weakness. In particular, Dawson News, which distributes newspapers and magazines, has seen sales of monthly magazines weaken, although newspapers has been resilient. A number of contracts with publishers are due for renewal in the next 12 months and tenders are becoming increasingly competitive. That said, management continues to target cost savings in transport, centralising regional logistics and automated packaging technology.
