The tanzanite stone is rapidly developing as a mainstream gemstone behind the top five (diamonds, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, amethysts), particularly in the US which accounts for 80% of its uptake. As a result, shares in Tanzanite One (TNZ; 275p), an AIM-listed company, may dual list on the NASDAQ later this year although this has not been officially confirmed. If that happens, we think the shares, which have already risen almost vertically since joining AIM in 2004 at 43.5p, will have much further to go. Tanzanite One is the largest supplier of the tanzanite stone which is normally found in a natural green or brown state and needs to be heated to deliver its pleasing blue hues.
