Ingenta was set up  five years ago by its current  chief executive, Mark Rowse, with additional finance from venture capitalists, to build a specialist search engine to enable researchers to identify journal articles which may be relevant to their work. Since then, it has emerged as the leader in the management and online distribution of published science, technology and medical journals, together with research based periodicals, and currently acts as a gateway to over 2.5 million documents (70 per cent of all material of this kind) often with abstracts and often linking to the full text.
