Judges Scientific - Buys wireline tools and services business for £80m

Judges has announced its twentieth and largest acquisition - I wasn’t sure I liked it at first given its focus is on the oil and gas industry. The business being bought is Geotek whose mainstay is design and production of a range of down-hole logging and inspection equipment. It’s all a bit reminiscent of Sondex, which was briefly listed about 20 years ago. Judges has paid £80m of which £45m is in cash with £35m based on future performance. The acquisition is financed through additional borrowings. The core business sells (and occasionally rents) a range of down-hole data collection equipment which assists in the appraisal and production of reservoirs.
