Everyone can see that a posh bakery will work well in locations like St James’ or Brompton Road where footfall is high and there is a not-so- price-conscious consumer, but latest interims from CAKE shows that the brand is being rolled out in Preston, Durham, Cheshire Oaks and Bradford and “exceeding management expectations,” helped by the significantly lower rents. In addition, the company is also successfully operating in a variety of formats/sizes, not just high street locations but in designer factory outlets, motorway service stations, brasseries, shopping centres and concessions.
