nCipher has developed specialised IT hardware that supports encryption, a technology being used increasingly widely to safeguard against fraudulent e-commerce transactions and unauthorised access to data. For similar reasons to other recent successful Sharewatch recommendations, like Retail Decisons and GB Group, its business is driven by not only a need to reduce fraud but also a need to comply with a new raft of regulations. A few years ago, Barclays was forced to shut down its online banking service after it was discovered that a security flaw was allowing people to access other people's accounts.
