When you see headline sales in decline, it’s easy to imagine that recovery is being pushed out: H1 saw MMAG’s Consumer Technology revenue go backwards from £46m to £41.2m. But in this case, MMAG has been replacing outright sales of a reconditioned phone or iPad with rental sales where the income is spread over 2/3 years, whilst MMAG also absorbs the initial cost of credit referencing etc in the first year; paydirt comes thereafter as rental income is higher margin and repeating in nature. Latest H1 shows that the number of rental customers is now 39k, having added a further 8.5k in the period but is also higher gross margin (H1 up 3.1% to 29% helped by buying more directly from consumers and selling direct over its own website, wh ...
