The first six months of 2022 were historical for investors in three different ways.First, the Russian invasion of Ukraine feels more like the beginning of something than a one-off moment of lunacy by Putin. That means we, as investors, must expect increased problems with energy, persistent supply chains blockages and inflation higher for longer.Second, the beginning of the year appears to have been a 40-year pivot. What had been going up for 40 years, world equity and bond markets, are now in the early stages of a multi-year reversal.
