I freely admit I’m a business geek. I love to learn about industries of all shapes and sizes. I’ve seen start-ups with impressive technology ultimately fail - but I’ve also seen seemingly ordinary companies grow at astonishing rates and go on to sustain that success. If there is one sector that I have tended to avoid over the years, however, it has been ‘buy and build’ businesses operating in the services sector - accountants, legal firms, PR firms and so on.
