Every time I think of the name Ramsdens, I think of fish and chips on Brighton Pier, perhaps to be finished with a pot of Yorkshire tea. Old timers will recall that Ramsdens used to be quoted on the stockmarket many years ago and was eventually taken private and nowadays is a fish and chip shop franchise operation.Anyway I am digressing. The newcomer with the same name is Middlesborough-based Ramsdens and its mainstay is pawnbroking, providing short-term loans to those without access to the mainstream lenders. As you might imagine,  the margins on pawnbroking are considerably better than selling fish and chips and Ramsdens, which has most of its pawnbroking stores in the North and North-East, charges a fairly typical industry ...
