First Derivatives - Software run rate of £37m-£39m

Following results for the year to end Feb, the share price spiked sharply higher. Sales were up 19% at £83m, adjusted pretax profit was up 17% to £10.8m and eps was up by 13% to 38.8p (9% tax). Software sales grew by a third to £24.9m (split between £12m SaaS and maintenance income, £12m services and the rest perpetual licence income). The transformational acquisition was in October when FDP lifted its holding in Kx Systems to 65.2% enabling the business to be fully consolidated but organic growth was strong with the statement noting new market surveillance deals.Kx is the owner of the lightening fast Kdb+ time series database on which most of FDP’s financial software has been built.
