We have had good success with previous gold picks. A big win was main write up, Petropavlovsk (POG; 1144p) in Nov ‘08. At the time, investors were pulling their money out of Russia, the rouble was in free-fall and so were Petropavlovsk shares. We caught them close to the low at 205p as our view was that the fears were overplayed. And so it proved with the five-and-a-half fold increase in two years. A more recent tip was Centamin (CEY; 157p) in July ’09 at 87p. Centamin is a single country, single asset play with its core asset in southern Egypt and by last month had risen to 170p.
