Directors in Topps Tiles must think the recent market conditions have created the sale of the century with cluster buying by three directors. Chairman Barry Bester has bought 2.5m shares at 75p each, or almost £1.9m and now has 16.4m shares (9.2%). He has been joined by the company's president and another founder, Stuart Williams, who bought 2m shares at the same price and now has 17.7m shares (10.4%). The chief executive, Matthew Williams, has also bought 50,000 and now holds 450,000.Historically retailers are said to bottom out before a recession hits and also tend to recover before other sectors.
