Cosaltâ€™s interim results to 27 April show strong performances from the marine safety and protection businesses, which are its mainstay. These have performed so well that with operating profit on continuing operations being up from Â£0.5m to Â£4.2m on sales of Â£50m, recently appointed chief executive Mark Lejman has been confident enough to do a â€œkitchen sinkâ€ job on the non-core businesses. The school uniform business was sold last month and the other, which sells caravans, has been savagely written down and described as a â€˜discontinued businessâ€™ in the accounts ahead of its impending sale.
