In the US, shares in Clearwire went into orbit after the company announced a couple of deals during the month. Clearwire is the brainchild of Craig McGraw, the founder of McGraw Cellular which he sold to AT&T for US$11.5 billion, propelling himself into the elite of America's billionaires. Some subscribers may not have heard of Clearwire and are wondering what all the fuss is about. The company provides a wireless high-speed internet service in the US and has become a pioneer of WiMax, a long-range data broadcasting technology pegged as a successor to Wi-Fi, the wireless networking technology that can only be used within a few hundred feet of transmission antennae.
