Jake Acquisitions, a 3i-backed vehicle, is bidding 500p cash a share for the household and baby care parts of Mayborn whilst at the same time divesting the Tube Plastics children’s playground division into a new unlisted business, worth an estimated 13p a share. The combined offer therefore is worth 513p or £119.3m for the company. In an unusual move, investors are also being given the option to retain a holding in the household/baby care elements of up to 11% of their holding. Mayborn was tipped at 434p last September, so a useful gain of 18%. At the time, Mayborn’s main rival, Advent, had been on the receiving end of a bid so the writing has been on the wall that Mayborn would follow eventually. ...
