Collecting is a curious behaviour. As children, we accumulate objects with a fascination as we feel, sort and touch with sticky fingers and contemplate them: pebbles, sea shells, small flowers, bottle caps...When we get older and become investors we do the same with our shares and yet, for the universality of this, the collecting impulse at this time of year is little understood.I watched a documentary over Christmas and it seems we know more about the motivation of bowerbirds than we do about human investors.
