I was at school with CEO Ed Molyneux who after Oxford University and the RAF was one of the trio to set up FreeAgent (FREE; 90p), which supplies an accounting system that enables micro SMEs (with fewer than five employees) and freelancers to produce their financial accounts and VAT returns. The software is now used by 52,000 users (1% of the market) and is sold under a Software as a Service (SaaS) model whereby the customer will access FreeAgent over the internet for a repeating annual fee of £10.50-£18 per month. Annualised sales (assuming each customer had been signed up for 12 months) has risen from £2.7m to £6.8m since 2013. It needs £11m to breakeven which it expects to achieve by end 2018. ...
