Some subscribers may already have heard of gas-to-liquids (GTL) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) technologies but others will be wondering exactly what all the fuss is about. Both of these processes take place out in the gas field to liquify gas for shipping and have come about partly as a solution to the world's natural gas reserves that have been discovered but are “stranded”  because they are too far from a gas pipeline or local market.  LNG is essentially a physical process of superchilling natural gas down to its liquid state enabling it to then be shipped in special cryogenic tankers before being turned back into gas at its destination.
