As we highlighted in August, H1 trading was upset by the World Cup which put off the company’s predominantly female clientele from entering city centre restaurants due to boisterous all male groups in bars and clubs. As a result, like-for-like sales growth was only 1% (2.6% excluding the World Cup period) but helped by six new openings, La Tasca’s sales increased 20% to £32.2m. Pretax profit was up only marginally at £2.2m from £2.1m. Earnings per share were 2.9p. The six new restaurants opened during the half were bunched up in the final nine weeks (2 La Tasca UK; 1 La Tasca USA; 1 La Vina; 2 Sam & Maxie's), leaving 70 units across the various formats.
