We met with Character management last month, shortly after the group announced barnstorming final results for 2003. Pretax profit almost tripled from £1.52m to £5.82m, equating to eps of 13.5p (9.2p after loan note conversion). Since 2000, Character has transformed itself from being a toy distributor for third parties into a group where by the end of this year over two thirds of products will come from internally developed ideas with half of sales from digital products. Sharewatch readers will already be familiar with the transformation which has seen the price appreciate from 47p where we first tipped them in March.
